Lead Decontamination Nurse

I was made lead dental nurse just over 2 years ago & my employer has let me develop the role as I go.
This is what I do with my decon lead hat on!

-decontamination lead and know HTM 05-01 inside out
- update practice policies re:decontamination
- ensure all the validation testing is carried out on the ultrasonics/washer disinfectors and autoclaves & I check the log books for the equipment are kept up to date (soil/foil/protein test etc)
-created log books for each surgery with daily checklists for surgery set up and shut down including a daily cleaning checklist
-oversee the quarterly DUWL dip slide
-do some in house training i.e hand washing, instrument sterilisation
-spot check the cleanliness of the surgeries

All this along with nursing & I only work part time!

Top tips:
-Delegate. Don't expect to get through it all yourself or you will get snowed under with work
-Know what you're talking about. It's difficult to train others if you're not sure about the subject
-Act professionally, other nurses need to take you seriously and respect your position of authority

I'm sure there is loads more I've not mentioned too
