questions to patients

You don't have to ask as the x ray doesn't harm the baby at all if they are pregnant. We were told this on a course in November 2014 by an advisor who works for the GDC.

Hiya, I would definitely ask. Just phrase it as general safety questions that all females of child bearing age are asked. Better to be safe :)

Thanks CullenDawn71, I will ask for my own piece of mind. I think my dentist is a little embarrassed to ask so I will in future. After all he always double checks on meds depending on what treatment we are going to do.
Thankyou :)

Hi I would always ask even if the dentist has checked the patients medical history, just for my own peace of mind. I would never just assume the patient had been asked and I am sure under the circumstances that they wouldn't mind, especially if they are pregnant. Hope this helps.

Hi there,
Can anyone tell me if it's true that you don't have to ask a female patient if there is any chance they could be pregnant before taking intra-oral radiographs?

I know it should be on current M H but what if that hasn't been checked?
