Sorry to bump an old thread but has anyone else heard that Dental therapy is nolonger funded by PCT's and you have to pay £9000 per annum to do the course?

hi there, with regards to further training there are several options, more so now since the registraition came into effect. i myself am planning on applying for the hygiene theraphy course but as i do not have the relevant a-levels, i am working on gaining more experience and doing more courses, before applying.
if you did not want to apply straight after qualifying, you can always do more courses ie, radiography, ortho nursing, sedation etc to build up your experience and gain more skills, and you could specialise if there is a particular area that really interests you. Nurses are being allowed more responsibility as time goes on (through courses and certification).
good luck :-)

Oh yeah and start learning to play the guitar or something as they require great manual dexterity

What sort of qualifications do you have?

All of the "good" dental schools ask for 2 - 3 A levels at grade B or more (ridiculous I know) and it is becoming more and more that having the NVQ or National is only an advantage. For example, the newest school - Dundee(?) I think is asking for 3 B's! so harsh.

It would be great to get into but is very competitive entry, last time I looked birmingham had 14 places a year and over 400 applicants... :( But one can but try! :)

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I am quite new to this whole thing (dental nursing) I've only been doing it since last January (I was a chef before and had a career change haha) I'm 22 and live in West Wales, and am wondering what to do when i qualify next year. My dad is trying to get me to train to be a hygienist, but I don't think this is the right thing for me, I want to know what everyone else has done, I'm hoping to move away somewhere less countryish and rural, and work in an NHS hospital, can anyone recommend any further courses I should do to go on my CV and get me a good job? thanks :)
