R C T query

TBH he should be keeping up-to-date through CPD etc, as i'm pretty sure use of rubber dam is not optional anymore, and he should be irrigating properly. If a patient makes a complaint, then you could also get in trouble due to his negligence. Its not fair on the patient or you.

Thanks for all yr input guys

I am working with a guy who has just passed his 40th yr in dentistry so I am thinking that maybe his skills are letting him down now.
he doesn't use a rubber dam!!! mayb another reason? and doesn't irrigate out with hypochlorite with a syringe, just dips the paper points in and goes in the canal with.
I have had words but it is very difficult when you have a nurse like myself bang up to date with knowledge working with someone who has just worked with "grand parented" nurses b4. he isn't dishonest just lacking knowledge, and as they say you cant show old dogs new tricks lol.
Ill keep working on it- I know what should be done- its whether I can push it.

I worked with a dentist normally take 2.5h(2 appointments) on a band 2 NHS, they are winning 10£/hour or less, like a nurse when they do that,(molar teeth) always trying to find 5 canal ...... :woohoo:
but there is orders private taking 4hours doing endo... what i think is lack of skill in my opinion.

This is bizarre!!! I work at a specialist/GDP practice both our endontists take 1-2 hour long appointments to complete a Endo?? The dentist I have worked with for 25 years (yup you read correctly) once took 4 visits to sort a client but that was because the canal kept oozing pus and it was a virgin tooth?!

If he's using a rubber dam and paper points, there is no reason for the canal not to be dry. Should be able to complete this in 1 to 2 visits with no problem. Patients can't be happy if they keep having to come back. Are they being charged for each visit? Or maybe its his way of making sure the patients come back to him? This sounds very dodgy to me. I'm not satisfied with his answer. How is he in general with other treatments and with the patients? Does he seem dishonest to you. I'd have a look at the gdc standards to remind myself of what is expected of the dental team before taking it further so I know exactly how to approach the problem.

this does seem very odd - thats what paper points are for - dry the canals.

Never come across that before either.

Hi guys

wonder if someone can help me out here, I work for a dentist who does quite a few rcts, but I am confused as I have always worked with dentists who either did rct all in one stage, or over 2 visits ie 1st+ 2nd stage. but the gdp who i work with now has rcts on the go for years!!!! bringing them back on a monthly basis. I queried this with him and he stated that he has to wait for the canals to be dry?. I understand that as a dental nurse of many yrs but what I am wondering is why can he not get the canals dry and everyone else can.

any advice would be appreciated
