How much per Hour should we get? Give your opinion

9 years 4 weeks ago #6587 by Dentalnurse5
There should be a banding system across all practices (I know NHS have a band system). You should be rewarded for doing post qualifications.

At least £10 an hour, its a hard and fast paced job which we are exposed to a number of risks and have to be immunized to work in the environment.

DN are very underpaid and its very sad to see.

I get £9 an hour and have been dental nursing for 35 years and have OHE qualification too. I don't care so much about the wage, yeah it could be better but it ain't gonna happen in my lifetime. Being part of a team and being appreciated would be nice. Knowing you made a patient feel good and showing them good oral hygiene ( even if it is behind the dentist's back ) is payment enough, especially six months on when their oh has improved!

I worked in a Senior DN role in a mixed practice for £9 per hour, with Qualified DNs getting paid £6.50-£7.50 an hour.
I started with the company on £3.40 an hour as a trainee in 2007.
I have since moved to a Hospital, Oral Surgery setting doing Oral Surgery and Restorative clinics and get paid the same as a Staff Nurse, £11.25 per hour.
Dental Nurses are so underpaid in a general practice.

It depends where you are based. I live in Belfast and i am on £9 hr. I have OHE,Sedation,Radiography qualifications. Experience with implants etc.
It s hard to get anything more than £9/hr here :(

I think that qualified dental Nurse's should at least be on 8.50 an hour.

The way that apprentice's are paid is terrible in my opinion, they work long exhausting hours and if in my case when I was training I worked just the same as any other nurse once I was trained in that practice but on £4 less.

And for the others yes your wage should go up depending on your qualifications and any extra work you do eg implant nurse.

All welcome to give opinion how much should we win per hour.

Why? How improve pay rate?

Now a days we have apprenticeships winning 2.60£/h doing 40h a week, trainees on minimum wage.

Normal nurse on 8.50 -10£? Should be on more?

Agencies nurses getting 10-12, 5 or even more.

MoD 14£

Implant Nurses 12£

Ortho Nurses 11£
