Tooth eruption dates - how to memorise

9 years 8 months ago #6337 by STaylor94
There is a very easy way to remember tooth eruption dates for deciduous and permanent teeth.

First of all for deciduous teeth its :

A - 6 months
B - 8 months
C - 18 months
D - 12 months
E - 24 months

Just think of A,B,C,D and E and try to remember the sequence/rhythm of the numbers.

For permanent teeth, for each tooth apart from the first permanent molar which erupts age 6-7 and the 3rd permanent molar which erupts age 18-24, you just have to add six to each tooth number. So for example:

1 + 6 = the central incisor erupts age 7-8
2 + 6 = the lateral incisor erupts at 8-9
3 + 6 = the canine erupts at 9-10
4 + 6 = the first premolar erupts age 10-11
5 + 6 = the second premolar erupts age 11-12
6 = explained above
7 + 6 = the second molar erupts 13-14
8 = explained above

Hope this helps.

Hello.

An easy way to remember average eruption dates are...

For permanent teeth remember this like a telephone number 61245378. Go over the number several times. Once you can remember this its really easy!

6 - 6 years
1 - 7 years
2 - 8 years
4 - 9 years
5 - 10 years
3 - 11 years
7 - 12 years
8 - 18-25 years

Therefore the 1st molars erupt at 6 years, the canines erupt at 11 years etc.

For deciduous teeth remember they erupt in the order of ABDCE.

A - 6 months
B - 8 months
D - 12 months
C - 18 months
E - 24 months

Remember this is only an average guide and eruption dates vary beteeen patients.

Hope this helps :-)

I found putting post-it notes up around the house was the only way I could try to remember. I read labels while I'm in the shower all the time (weirdo, yes  !!) so figured this would help! To be fair, 10 years later I still can't remember...!! I hope you learn them :)

I find these really hard to memorise too! I've just taken a mock module 2 paper and spent ages going over and over the eruption dates and not one question about it came up on the paper! I don't know to an easy way of memorise them. It may help to write them down and pin them up somewhere where you would see them so you can keep refreshing yourself of the dates.

Good luck :)
