What are the different types of caries?

Descriptions of different types of caries

Enamel caries- early dimineralalisation...on fissues surfaces this appears as a light chalk looks like etched enamel
on smooth surfaces it appears as white spots or blobs of superficial opacity
Dentinal caries- break down of enamel....on fissures this appers as a small or large hole gap in enamel(not to be confused with
anatomical pits.
Non Cavitated lesions..... Some carious may accur with no break in the enamel these can be seen by shadows beneth
the enamel(not to be confused with amalgum restorations.)

Recurrent caries...... Associated with existing restoration

Arrested caries............. Dark in colour with glassy appearance caries process has halted due to diet chance and fluoride
therapy.
Rampant caries...... Highly active

Occult or hidden caries...... usually found by radiographs or when lesion causes pain and is opened up with a bur.

Hi there

You've got me thinking!! I can think of two others,

Gross caries (caries involving multiple tooth surfaces more likely needing extraction)

Arrested caries. (Caries that is present but has stopped progressing, due to patient changing hygiene and\or diet)

Sorry if insulting your knowledge with descriptions I never assume people know what I'm talking about force of habit!!
