Thank you, Ekw!
This has shed a little more light on that department - for now I am going to definitely just focus on getting general experience and trying not to crash my course, but will call my local hospital at some point to see if I can arrange a day of observing.

Certainly sounds interesting, though. :cheer:

Hi there

It's always good to have future plans and interests gives you areas to work towards.
I work in theatre in a childrens hospital as well as in our dental institute (split based role as senior)
You can get to maxfax by applying to hospital based dental nursing usually to do with oral surgery and oral medicine occasionally some specialist dental clinics will only do surgical procedure like implants which could lead onto other clinics connected to it.
I enjoy theatre surgical although with most specialist areas you can over time deskill from general nursing duties, which is why I enjoy doing sedation and childrens dentistry keeps skills up in general areas.

My personal duties include:

Preparing surgical trays and setting up and testing surgical drill.
Preparing X-rays in multiple views and setting out periodontal dressings and cover plates
Assisting with bonding of gold chains (for exposure and bond of unerupted tooth)
Tidying away trays and sharps theatre counts and handovers to recovery nurses.
I also do a clinic for patients with medical issues (cancer, epilepsy, syndromes, haemophilia)
I started training in a general practice then moved to community, it's beneficial I think to experience as much as you can you then know exactly where you want to be.
Good luck finding your way!! Hope I was slightly helpful.

Hello, can anyone share their views/advice about post-qualification career paths?

I'm possibly interested in MaxilloFacial as a future option and would like to hear from any nurses who work/have worked in this field - or any other, for that matter.......

I would love to hear about what your duties are, treatments, general level of involvement, pressures, etc.

Although I am a loooooonnnnng way off from qualifying, and need to get more general experince first, it's still useful to look to the further future too.

Thanks in advance. B)
