Hello,
please have a look in HTM 01 05, there you can find a good list of what goes where! :)

i think it depends on what colour lid / sticker it has? as ours take cartridges with local still in them and it states it on the tub. it may depend on who collects the waste? we put extracted teeth in there too that do not have amalgam.

we put pretty much everything that is a hazard into our sharps boxes
:
needles
burs
local anaesthetic cartridges : full, half empty watever
matrix band strips
canual needles
blades
sutures

ive worked in practise for two years now and we are told to put anything that could potentially punctrue the skin into the sharps boxes

Hi kcp

In our yellow sharps boxes we only put in things such as:

Needles
Syringes
Matrix bands
Burs
Blades and sutures
Canulas

Anything which could be seen as a sharps risk items like glass bottles with or without contents like chemfil or hypochlorite we put in a different box which is picked up. Also there is a blue box for local we don't use it in hospital but I did in community and it was for local cartridges only.
Practice nurses may have other information but I hope I've helped.
