I `ve just passed my written exam and I will have my OSCE EXAM in january 2017 .
It would be a great help.
Sorry for the delay, i've been on holiday and assumed i would get notified by email that you had replied to me haha!
Hi lovely people
I have unfortunately failed my OSCE!! I must admit that I was inexperienced and lacked confidence.
I would appreciate any help and support that any one can give me as I am hoping to pass next time.
You will definetly make it this time round dear dont worry.do read the note twice to get a better idea of what they are asking cos during my first one i only read it once and didnt read it properly so i think thats y i failed my first time cos i took out instruments which werent needed for the procedure .i have got some osce example notes which is quite handy.do you want me to forward it to you.
Hi dental& nurse and suzzanne
Dont lose hope until u succedd in achieving your goals.i did my osce for the sec time but this time round i passed.as mentioned below by smiling dcp you should tell the examiner by introducing urself
-hi my name is .....and I am a dental nurse here
-You are wearing ur appropriate uniform hair tied back no jewelleries no makeup and wearing black close toed shoes
-Washed your hands using the hand washing technique and dried your hand using papers towels
-wiped the working surface area with disinfectant wipes
-ready to begin the procedure
This is what i told them for every station besides the one giving advice unmanned station and medical history station.

Back when I did mine, I found that my ROE helped me in terms of not just learning the procedures inside out but also stating infection control procedures before and after treatments. Did they advise where you may have lost marks?
The most important part of the OSCEs and being a DN is infection control. A lot of my classmates lost marks here which is a shame as it should not be the case. You must mention PPE, even if it is not there. For example, if they ask you to set up a tray for treatment, it is good practice to mention that you have wiped the surfaces and donned your PPE after following handwashing procedure. You don't have to actually demonstrate it, there is not enough time.
Hope that helps.

Hi Girls, i also had my OSCE in Birmingham. It was so stressful for me as well. I'm still recovering from all of that stress. Feeling drained. It was my first time. I'm 50-50 to be honest. It is hard to figure out how well you do when you don't know the criteria is ( how well expect you to do).
I felt a lot better about this one than the one in January... I was less nervous & said all that I could about each station. now reading all of these comments im doubting myself about little things that I may have got wrong... such a long time to wait ! Hope that ive done enough this time! does anyone know if you fail for a 2nd time can you just take it again for a 3rd time or do you need to redo other parts again?? im lucky as my practice paid for me to resit, but I don't know if they will pay again!!
Oh okies..wiped the spactu for mixing alginate and then for the fox willis bite i autoclaved it cos thats what we do ...for the sharps i put the jiffy inauto clave an the rest sharps ..the mirror into the clinical as it was plastic and matrix band sharps as well..took the floss out of the clamp and dispose it to auto climical and clamp autoclave...now all we can do is to wait for the results..fingers crossed hope we will all make it
Well I was told pass mark depends on overall how everybody did an that is what sets the pass mark rate. When I first read the booklet I couldn't believe there were 3 unmanned stations I thought that would be a gift until you got in them an saw how badly they were set up didn't even make sense the only one I was fine with out of them was the medical medicines one!
For the denture one it was only oral and taking care of denture advice ..it was written on the card post la instructions have already been given by the dentist.it was a tough osce compared to the january one

hi all. i did not complete my radiogarph one station dut to time shortage. I gave post extraction and acrylic dennture instrucion to the lady but not enough time for chrome denture instruction . i didnt do good at ME station where the lady had broken arm. my mind was not working and i was just blank at the station..biggest mistake i just signed her form after asking her..now i thinh she need to sign her form ...she was asking me question but i didnt answer...other station i think i did ok..at every station i told examiner that i ve washed my hand and please assume i am wearing my full PPE which include gloves mask and visor..mixing was perfect but i did not showed it to the examiner...i was just worried about time that i have to complete it within 5 minutes..i dont know...passing marks are too high and i dont think i did good..i dont even think know about the exam...
I picked the one with adrenaline both times as there wasn't stating anything on the patients on medical history on the card as assumed it was fine to pick them?! Yeah I was abit on the spot when she asked what's a unit with the alcohol?? I was expecting the way is it bad for you teeth etc but not what's a unit?
Which local anaesthetic didnu guys choose.when i asked my dentist he said we use the one with adrenaline for both rct and crown and sensitive tooth.well it all depends on dentist every one works differently ..mh one i signed the form for the lady zzthis was a confusing station for me ..i know i didnt do good for this one as they were all answrrd and the only one not answered was two question on the form..others went well ok for me.
I'm glad I'm not the only on who thought this was far more difficult than the OSCE back in January. The more I think about it the more I realise I forgot to do and say little things was so panicked about completing all the tasks in enough time
Hey guys, it was my first time also and I am so gutted the way it went, especially because the mistakes I made were due to nerves and not because I didn't know it. I also think they gave us too many tasks for each station - this made me panic a bit as I was too concerned with not having enough time.
I didn't complete the extraction section because I spent too long looking for the lower incisor forceps, I could only see the root ones for some reason? :/
I chose the wrong anaesthetic cartridge for both composite and rct instrument selection. I checked for expiry date but didnt tell the examiner, so not sure if he noted that I did..
MH station I was a bit confused because I was not expecting the woman to have filled it all up. Someone told me their name on the form was missing but I did not check this.
Alginate I mixed 2 scoops which was not enough but I told the examiner I was aware it wasn't enough. Hand gelling technique - for some reason I kept thinking all this time there were 2 less steps to it, but it the same as handwashing technique arghh
Waste station, I asked if i could separate the matrix band from the holder they said I shouldn't, the same for rubber dam clamp with the floss. I told her I know floss goes in clinical and clamp in autoclave.. My other colleagues didn't even ask and removed the floss from the clamp.. I wish I didn't ask and just did it.
I was ok with radiographs station, crown fit, medical emergency drugs and okish with denture advice.
Overall I was too nervous and that affected my performance a lot!
OMG it was my first time and I find it very hard and tricky.WRitten stations was extremly hard ( types of oxygen mask,I had no clue witch should I choose) there was not enough time for station with x-rays.Actress from station with denture was unpleasent and not helpful at all when I stuck for a minute.
I finished them all.
I found X-rays hard as I struggled to get it all done in the time, there was to much on the desk so not sure about that but the medical and forceps I think I did ok ok but so hard to tell.
How about you?
This is my second time & the thought of failing ergh
