mej1fsblogo_member_white_120After 9months of blood, sweat and tears the switch was flicked, its alive!!! At 8pm on Monday the 12
th April www.dentalnursenetwork.com was brought into the world for the dental community, no turning back now. The team stood transfixed on their screens as new members flooded onto the site. Our hard work had finally paid off. Working on the website for 9 months was a definite test of determination. We had learnt the hard way in many aspects but wouldn’t have changed it for the world.

The point of conception came about when two nurses got chatting over lunch on one non descript day. Janine Greyling and I found ourselves discussing the current state of nursing, as most nurses love to do. What does registration mean? What are CPD’s about? Where does this leave nurses? Where are nurses going in dentistry?

So many questions to discuss but no one to discuss it with or find out from.  Help!?

Roll on www.dentalnursenetwork.com. We want to help nurses by encouraging a better working environment. We want nurses to strive to be a better nurse, have great patient rapport building skills and increase their knowledge.

Our main focus is to empower nurses and we would also like dentists to treat their nurses better. This includes appreciating, supporting and paying them a fair wage. Nurses can add a lot of value to their practice, it’s about time they are fully utilised to their full potential. What would happen if a dentist was left without a nurse for a day or week. Gone are the days when the non qualified receptionist can cover in the surgery.

Dentistry has one of the highest turnovers of staff, but this can change. A nurse is more likely to stay in a practice if she is appreciated, paid well, part of a happy team and supported in his/her professional growth. Nurses often leave a practice in need of a new environment- a change. Support him/her by training in Radiography, Sedation or Impression taking. Empower your nurse with greater responsibility.

Some might say that things will never change but that will not stop us, we believe in what we are doing. We are constantly striving to improve the experience and quality of nursing, which can only improve the working dynamics of the practice environment and patient experience.
